Computer Science Resource Center
The Computer Science Resource Center provides appointment-based peer tutoring for students enrolled in CS core and service courses.
Peer Tutoring (Individual tutoring)
- You can receive tutoring from a fellow student who excelled in the course(s) you are requesting.
- Peer tutors help fellow students develop the skills they need to succeed as independent learners. They model effective strategies and methods for approaching challenging course material.
- A peer tutor cannot complete your work for you and, as a fellow student, is bound to Academic Integrity policies.
Make a tutoring appointment through the Student Navigate App.

- Log in to your account
- Click on the purple “Appointments” button at the bottom of the home screen
- Click “Schedule an Appointment”
- Select Type of Appointment: Tutoring
- Pick a Service:
- SCI Quick Question (30 min)
- SCI CS Tutoring (60 min)
- SCI CS Group Appointment (60 min)
- Click the blue “Find Availability” button
- Choose your class (you will need to include zeros i.e. CS-0007; CMPINF-0401)
- If given an option, choose how you would like to meet (in person vs. virtual)
- SCI 2A11 Information Sciences Building
- SCI 5710 Sennott Square
- SCI Virtual Tutoring
- Choose the best time available for you (Eastern Standard Time)
- Check that the details of your appointment are correct
- Click the “Schedule” button to reserve your appointment

- You will need to download a mobile app called “Navigate Student”.
- You can find the app in the Apple Store or in the Google Play Store.
- Once you download the app, you will be prompted to select your school (University of Pittsburgh).
- You will be asked to sign in with your Pitt username and password.
- You will be asked to authenticate your login using two-factor authentication.
- You will then be prompted to fill out a short survey about your academic experiences and interests.
Making an Appointment via the App

SCI Office Hours
Don’t be afraid to use instructor and teaching assistant office hours, along with valuable recitation and lab times, for clarification and help. Bring examples of problems with which you are struggling to office hours. Demonstrate your attempt at solving these problems and ask how you can make any improvements.

Study Spaces on Campus
Study Lab
Study Lab provides free drop-in and by appointment tutoring for all Pitt undergraduates. They also offer individual academic coaching on study skills, test taking strategies, time management, thinking critically, and other topics. A few featured services include:

Math Assistance Center (MAC)
The Math Assistance Center (MAC) provides walk-in service for undergraduate level math courses. If you prefer to work with a particular Teaching Assistant (TA), you can view TA schedules on the MAC’s website.
Writing Center
The Writing Center assists all Pitt students in their writing efforts. It is staffed by experienced consultants who have been trained to help others improve their writing.
University Library System
The University Library System (ULS) fosters connections and knowledge creation and dissemination that help faculty, students, and researchers to excel.

Disability Resources and Services
Disability Resources and Services (DRS) provides resources and accommodations for students with documented disabilities. DRS provides support in requesting appropriate accommodations in your coursework connecting you with helpful resources to be successful.
TRIO Student Support Services
The mission of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is to create an inclusive community for students to activate success by working together toward excellence. The SSS team has one purpose: helping first-generation and low-income students to make the most of their time at Pitt. SSS offers advising, skills-building workshops, leadership training, financial aid and wellness assistance, and academic tutoring as well as lots of fun social outings and activities.
