New Graduate Student FAQ

The New Graduate Student FAQ can help answer the most commonly asked questions students have regarding official transcripts, English Proficiency tests, new student orientation, course enrollment and more.

Undergraduate Student Orientation

Fall admits:
While you will be working with the SCI Undergraduate advising staff via remote individual advising appointments over the Summer, there will also be an SCI in-person date during welcome week for new Fall first-year students in late August. This orientation will take place on campus, typically on the last Friday before the start of classes. More details will be provided on this site as we get closer to the start of the Fall term.

Spring admits:
Only transfer students are admitted during the spring, and advisors work individually with transfer students to assist in orientation and course scheduling. Transfer students can contact sciadvising@pitt.edu for more information.

Graduate Student Orientation

Fall admits who accept their offer of admission will have information about School-wide orientation emailed directly to them at both their new Pitt email and the email they used when applying to our School. Students will receive additional department-based orientation, and they will be contacted by their department with details (again through email). International students will need to work with the Office of International Services at Pitt for information pertaining to immigration requirements. Please access the "Graduate Student Orientation" link above for more details.

NOTE: Fall orientation activities typically take place in mid-late August. Details will be provided to you in the summer prior to August!
