Shi-Kuo Chang

Dr. Chang has a BS degree (Electrical Engineering, 1965) from the National Taiwan University, and MSc and PhD degrees (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 1967 and 1969) from the University of California at Berkeley.

He was a research scientist at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center from 1969 to 1975. From 1975 to 1982 he was a faculty member in the Department of Information Engineering and Director of the Information Systems Laboratory at the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle. He was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Director of the Information Systems Laboratory at the Illinois Institute of Technology from 1982 to 1986.

He has been with the University of Pittsburgh since 1986. He was Chairman of the Department of Computer Science from 1986 to 1991. He established the Center for Parallel, Distributed and Intelligent Systems, of which he is Co-director.

Dr. Chang has been consultant for Siemens, IBM, AT&T Bell Laboratories, Standard Oil, Honeywell, and Naval Research Laboratory. He has published over two hundred papers, written or edited eleven books and is a Fellow of IEEE. His current research interests are: visual languages, distributed multimedia systems, image information systems.
