New Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies Appointed, DINS Faculty Promoted

September 9, 2024

SCI is always finding new ways to enrich the school’s programs and departments for faculty, staff, and students alike. Two new roles – the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies - are designed to enhance SCI’s focus and efforts in both the undergraduate and graduate sectors.

SCI is pleased to announce that Dr. William Garrison, Teaching Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science, has been appointed as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies.

“I have always been passionate about learning and education, and I am excited to face the challenges of this new role while remaining focused on the student experience at our school,” said Garrison. “I plan to work closely with our departments, Student Success, our academic advisors, and students directly, to better understand SCI from the perspective of our students with their widely varied backgrounds. As a team, we will continue the work of assessing our strengths and seeking opportunities to better support our students in their goals at Pitt and beyond.”

SCI is filling the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies position and is hopeful to have it filled by this summer or fall.

In addition, Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Rosta Farzan has been promoted to Professor in the Department of Informatics and Networked Systems.

Please join us in congratulating esteemed faculty Garrison and Farzan on their remarkable achievements!
