Information Technology

Services for Students

The Information Technology Department provides limited support for student laptops. We are happy to provide technical assistance and advice to students concerning University-supported software and network configuration. Depending on the severity of the problem and whether the issue is hardware or software related, we may direct you to seek further assistance through your manufacturer or with CSSD Student Computing. The consultants are students at the University of Pittsburgh who can help with campus network connections, virus and spyware removal, software installation, data backups, and much more. To schedule an appointment, contact the Technology Help Desk at 412-624-HELP [4357].  Walk-in service is available at the Towers Lobby Support Center or the University Store on Fifth.

Wireless Network

Pitt Wifi internet access is available throughout both the Information Sciences and Sennott Square buildings. To report any problems with the Wireless Network, please report the problem to the University Help Desk via helpdesk@pitt.edu or 412-624-HELP.

Laptop Security

Never leave your laptop or other personal items unattended. Should you lose any personal item while in our buildings, please visit the Fifth Floor front desk in the Information Sciences Building or the Sixth Floor front desk of Sennott Square.

Printing in the Buildings

In the Information Sciences Building, a Pitt Print Station is located on the third floor in the Collaboratory space. Students can print at this station using their Pitt ID. In Sennott Square, students can use the following printers: ps (located in the 5th floor mail room) and ps2 (located in the 6th floor mail room). To gain access to use these printers, contact tech@sci.pitt.edu.
