Dr. Diane Litman, a faculty member with the School of Computing and Information and Senior Scientist at the University of Pittsburgh’s Learning Research and Development Center, was among 44 scholars honored with the 2025 Distinguished AI Scholar Award by the National Academy of Artificial Intelligence (NAAI) on July 8, 2025. NAAI’s 2025 Distinguished AI Scholar Award acknowledges outstanding work that continues to advance the development of artificial intelligence, as well as recognizes scholars who have contributed profound research, application, and innovation to the field.
Dr. Litman’s research focuses on improving educational technology using spoken and natural language processing methods such as argument mining, summarization, and dialogue systems. A Fellow of the Association for Computational Linguistics, Dr. Litman has twice chaired its North American Chapter, co-authored numerous award-winning papers, and holds Senior Member status with the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence.
