MLIS alumnus Alex J. Toner (’11) was named by Get Involved!, Inc. as one of their 2019 Western PA Rising Stars on September 12. Toner is the assistant director of community engagement in Pitt’s Office of Community and Governmental Relations. In addition, Toner also serves as a high school mentor at Brashear High School through the Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentor 2.0 program and is an active member of Brookline Together.
The Rising Star awards recognize 21 local young professionals who “dedicate their time and talent to community organizations and who are making a positive difference in the region.”
