Jamie Allen (SCI '93)

Jamie Allen (He/Him) is a University of Pittsburgh graduate from the class of 1993, where he studied Information Studies and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and the Men's Club Rugby team. While at Pitt, he was an intern at US Steel and  an RA in Brackenridge Hall. He has had a distinguished career in engineering, including a role as Director of Engineering at Starbucks, where he led the custom software development of their Starbucks Rewards as well as Mobile Order/Pay systems. He also worked at Facebook, where he was a leader in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). He also served on the School of Computing and Information's Alumni Board for many years before his transition to the Board of Visitors at SCI.

Allen is the author of Effective Akka and co-author of Reactive Design Patterns. He is also a frequent speaker at conferences, having been an early employee of the company that created the Scala programming language. He speaks regularly at global conferences, including a talk on "How To Measure MTTx Values in SRE" at the Craft Conference 2024 in Budapest. He is currently the Chief Technologist for both AWS and Site Reliability Engineering at EPAM Systems.
