At the Department of Informatics and Networked Systems annual Spring Student Awards, Hubert Asare earned the K. Leon Montgomery Assistantship and the Dr. Fritz Froehlich Scholarship, awarded to outstanding students in the Master of Science in Telecommunications (MST) program. These annual awards honor students for their outstanding performance academically, professionally, and in the Pitt community.

Technology has the capability to transform the way people produce and consume art, and at SCI, Assistant Professor Tim Huang is making that happen with a Pittsburgh connection.
On March 19, Huang and fellow researcher Pat Healy, a PhD student studying information science, presented their work on The Time Traveling Project in Harrisburg at Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s residence.

Xiaowei Jia Discusses Knowledge-Guided Machine Learning in Dean’s Spotlight Series 2024

Xiaowei Jia, an assistant professor in SCI’s Department of Computer Science, explored knowledge-guided machine learning at the fourth and final lecture of the Dean’s Spotlight Series 2024 on April 25.
Jia presented his research on knowledge-guided machine learning and its real-world applications, with his research interests lying in artificial intelligence (AI), data mining and data science, and machine learning.

SCI Commemorates Graduates in Spring 2024 Recognition Ceremonies

The loved ones of more than 200 SCI graduate and undergradate students gathered together on April 27 to celebrate the students’ success and achievements throughout their time at the University of Pittsburgh.
Associate Dean and Professor Adam Lee welcomed the master’s and doctoral graduates and their families, friends and other loved ones to the ceremony at Lawrence Hall, where he highlighted their accomplishments and cherished memories at SCI.
Students Create Tech-Driven Change at Annual SteelHacks 2024
