School Initiatives and Programs

SCI Week

This annual week-long series of events connects SCI students with corporate partners for networking opportunities, professional development, and more. Events included resume reviews, mock interviews, professional development workshops, panel discussions, and meetings with executives.

Technology Leadership Initiative (TLI)

This summer program is for underserved students in grades 6-12. TLI is free to participate in, and teaches students programming, mobile application development, and web development skills.

WiCStart

This is a one-week program for incoming first-year students who either want to learn more about computer science and information science or who plan to major in one or both areas.

She Innovates

She Innovates is a weekend of ideation, programming, bonding, and creation, with mentors from both industry and academia. This event features keynote speakers and discussions about a variety of important topics such as empowerment and leadership.

Community Engagement Centers

The Community Engagement Centers located in the Hill District, Homewood and Hazelwood to provide consistent STEAM programming to students in the community from grades 1-12. This creates the opportunity for exposure as well as skill building in the field of computing through various activities such as game design workshops, robotics, and computational thinking.

3Sixty

3Sixty primarily focuses on supporting research, educational development, and social engagement for Pitt students. The program seeks to expand opportunities in computing and information for students who have previously had limited access to these fields. 

SCI UBelong

Participants in the SCI UBelong summer bridge program have the unique opportunity to move onto campus one week prior to Welcome Week to connect with University faculty, staff, and peers! Each day, participants engage in social activities, academic workshops, resource and opportunity workshops, and community engagement. 

Conference Support Program

To support SCI’s mission of enhancing student success, we are launching a Conference Support Program to support undergraduate and master’s students to participate in academic and professional conferences. The goals of this program are: 1) providing networking and career development opportunities to undergraduate and masters’ students, 2) offering research development opportunities to undergraduate and master’s students, and 3) Supporting networking, community development, and cohort building among students within SCI and in the broader academic community.
