On Monday, August 28, an exhibit titled “Black Voices in Computing” debuted in the lobby of the Information Sciences Building. Recognizing that conventional histories of computing have typically neglected the efforts of Black scholars; the exhibit aims to center the contributions of Black technologists and researchers in the field of computing and information.

Kamil Akhuseyinoglu and Peter Brusilovsky Win Best Paper at Conference
SCI PhD student Kamil Akhuseyinoglu and Professor Peter Brusilovsky recently won the Best Paper Award at the Association for Computer Machinery (ACM)'s 29th Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation and Personalization (UMAP). Their paper, titled "Data-Driven Modeling of Learners' Individual Differences for Predicting Engagement and Success in Online Learning," proposes a new model for exploring how individual differences relate to student performance.

Pitt Startup Makes Exercising ‘SimpL’
Kunal Gandhi was studying on a recent evening when an unexpected message popped up on his LinkedIn: His startup company was being considered for an award by the NFL Players Association.
“They wanted to learn more about our story and the next day, we talked with them,” said Gandhi, cofounder and CEO of SimpL, a fitness technique tracking app.
