SCI Alumnus Becomes CTO of Healthcare Technology Company

SCI alumnus Girish Chavan has recently become Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Astrata, Inc., a company that offers a variety of technological products to healthcare organizations.  The company utilizes analytics, informatics, and quality measurement to improve health services.  In his role as CTO, Chavan leads the Product, Engineering and IT organizations of the company. 

Chavan graduated with an MS in Information Science from SCI in 2004.  Since then, he has had a variety of roles, from UX designer and technical architect to a product manager and salesperson.  Prior to Astrata, Chavan was the Senior Director of Product Management at UPMC Enterprises, where he defined product strategy, organized engineering efforts, and scaled teams. Prior to UPMC, Girish led the technical efforts of one of the top clinical NLP research groups in the United States at the University of Pittsburgh. He is also the co-founder of Veralytics Inc, a healthcare NLP/ML startup. He is 2019 Pittsburgh 40 Under 40 honoree, earning that recognition for his contributions to immigration advocacy.
