General

How do I know if I’m eligible for admission?
Admission guidelines are available in the University Catalog. Navigate to the either the most recent Catalog publication or, if transferring from another School within the University, to the year you were admitted to the University (Current | Archived), then to the SCI section of the Catalog.

How do I apply?

  • If you are a first year, international, or external transfer student (includes second non-Pitt bachelor’s degree and readmitted students), you should apply through the Office of Admission and Financial Aid (OAFA).
  • If you are an internal or regional transfer student, you must initiate the application in your current school of enrollment. Meet with your assigned Academic Advisor for further instruction on applying for transfer out of your current school, typically completing a program/plan change form.
  • If you are a second-degree or reinstated student, you should apply through ApplyYourself.

When is the application deadline for admission?
Applications must be received by SCI by the deadlines listed below.  Applications received after the deadlines will not be reviewed.

Internal and Regional Transfer Questions

How and when will I be notified if I am admitted?
You will be notified by SCI via your Pitt email address prior to the start of enrollment appointments for the upcoming term. Our admissions committee meets once per term to review all applications; see the “admissions review period” column in the table above. If you submitted your Academic Program/Plan change form through your current Pitt School prior to the application deadline and have not received an admissions decision by your enrollment appointment for the upcoming term, please contact your current Pitt School to initiate an application status update.

If I applied last year and was not admitted, can I reapply this year?
Yes, as long as it is before the application deadline

Second Degree and Reinstatement Questions

How much is the application fee?
The application fee is $50 for one program.

What if I cannot afford to pay the application fee?
We expect all applicants to submit the application fee.

Can I pay the application fee by credit card?
You must pay the fee by credit card. Instructions will be given when you submit your online application.

Are there additional financial aid forms to complete?
All inquiries regarding financial aid should be directed to the Office of Financial Aid.

What if my application is not complete by the deadline?
It is your responsibility to make certain that your application is complete and that the required materials reach us by the above stated deadlines. You may use your user ApplyYourself ID and password to check your submitted application to make certain that it is complete.

Can I make changes to my online application after it has been submitted?
Please email any changes to sciug@pitt.edu. We cannot guarantee that your changes will be considered during the review of your application, but the sooner you provide us with updates, the more likely it is that they will be considered.

If I applied last year and was not admitted, can I reapply this year?

Is it possible to visit the campus and the School of Computing and Information?

How do I track the status of my application?

You may track the status of your completed application through the University’s PSMobile site. Once you complete your application, you will receive instructions from the University to set up a Pitt Account that you may use to access the PSMobile site. In addition to tracking the status of your application, you can also use the PSMobile site to view your admissions decision and, if admitted, accept your offer.

Note: You may still view your submitted application in ApplyYourself. Receipt of the required uploaded documents (score reports, transcripts, and letters of recommendation) will be indicated in the corresponding sections.

If I am admitted to a program, can I defer admission?
Students may defer for up to one year. If you wish to defer, you should contact sciug@pitt.edu.

Do I need to provide letters of recommendation?
No, you are not required to provide letters of recommendation but are able to do so if you’d like.
