Dean Childers Graduates from Leadership Pittsburgh

August 1, 2023

On Thursday, June 15, Dean Bruce R. Childers graduated from Leadership Pittsburgh (LP). It is the flagship program of Leadership Pittsburgh, Inc., a multi-disciplinary organization for leadership enrichment in Western Pennsylvania. For nearly 40 years, the organization has provided professional development opportunities to senior-level leaders in the region. Dean Childers graduated from class XXXIX of LP. The size of each cohort ranges between 50 and 60 participants, each of whom are leaders in various industries and civic organizations throughout Western Pennsylvania.

LP is meant to provide these local leaders with experiences and educational programming that will allow them to develop an enhanced understanding of the challenges facing senior management in the region. Dean Childers said, “Participating in LP opened my eyes to many issues facing the region in education, the arts, and our local communities. It reinforced that there are many wonderful resources that make this region truly special.” Dean Childers also praised his fellow participants, saying, “My LP cohort members were inspiring – their passion for making both the LP experience and the region better was one of a kind! That commitment certainly came through in our volunteer service project at Family House, an important organization that provides lodging for patients and families that are traveling to our city to receive medical treatment.”

Across 10 months, LP invites participants to not only examine key issues affecting Western Pennsylvania, but also enhance their civic engagement and develop their professional networks. The program also creates opportunities for its participants to practice leadership and develop responses to systemic issues affecting Western Pennsylvania. The ultimate aim of LP is to furnish leaders with the skills and resources necessary to guide their organizations toward addressing challenges facing the region and making an impact. Dean Childers said, “In addition to learning about education, the arts, the regional economy, healthcare, and communities, we took a road trip to Harrisburg as a culminating experience. We were at the State Capitol on the day that Governor Josh Shapiro signed his first bill, which was passed with bipartisan support. It was inspiring to learn how committed our state representatives are to working together for the betterment of the Commonwealth. Returning from this experience, I feel more confident and comfortable advocating about issues relevant to computing and information with our local state representatives.”

Please join us in celebrating Dean Childers’ accomplishment!
